Potters and distributors who call Standard Ceramics are familiar with Julie Hregdovic, who has offered expert help from our Technical Department since 1986. We are pleased to announce that Lindsey Pauline, who came to Standard in July of 2020, will be joining Technical Director Julie Hregdovic in the Technical Department as our new Technician. This expansion reflects Standard’s commitment to quality control and customer service and will ensure that all customers and distributors will have a timely and expert response to their queries.
Lindsey began her orientation with the company in the retail shop and moved on to assist Julie with technical matters. She has a B.F.A. in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics from Slippery Rock University and is a working ceramic artist.
Standard’s Technical Department oversees extensive quality control practices and formulates new clay bodies and glazes. Every batch of clay manufactured by Standard is tested for shrinkage, absorption, and surface flaws. Moisture checks are conducted every hour. The department maintains detailed records of this broad testing, allowing the technical staff to trace the source of any problem throughout the manufacturing process, back to the raw materials.
Many of Standard’s customers have come to count on Julie as a source of answers for their questions. Her excellent knowledge of product and production makes her an essential resource for both customers and staff at Standard. She has worked personally with many potters, listening to their needs, researching solutions, and guiding them to products that meet their specifications. With Lindsey on staff, Standard’s ability to continue these services will be enhanced.
While at Slippery Rock University, Lindsey worked as a studio technician. She mixed clays and glazes and assisted other students. While working at Standard’s retail shop, she interacted with customers at the store and developed a working relationship with Julie, who helped her solve customer problems. Since moving to the technical department, Lindsey has been learning the particulars of quality control and is looking forward to using her interactive skills along with her technical knowledge in this new position.
With the beginning of the new year, customers and distributors may continue to use the technical@standardceramic.com for their inquiries. Lindsay will receive and respond to these emails, referring any complicated problems to Julie. We always encourage customers to email or call the technical department with any problems or questions, as we have many resources at hand to help unravel the complexities of the ceramic arts process. Lindsey Pauline and Julie Hregdovic are ready and waiting for your emails in the new year.
